From the Workshop

Personal Projects

I enjoy creating personalized items, which have included map-engraved flag plaques to adorn the workspace of my nationally diverse laboratory, signs for a fledgling non-profit research organization, holiday and celebratory gifts for family and friends, and simple functional items made more enjoyable by a personal, creative touch.

I frequently begin with open-ended idea generation, formulate several potential design schemes, plan and prepare the machine process, select and acquire materials, and finally make the product.

I work with several media, including metal and glass, though I have a particular love and affinity for wood. I also utilize several manufacturing techniques, but prefer machining techniques that execute instructions exactingly following detailed planning, like the 3D printer, CNC router, waterjet, vinyl cutter, and laser cutter (for which I have a special place in my heart).

My work has been recognized with a Blue Ribbon at the Northwestern Michigan Fair (Traverse City, Michigan), receiving the top award in the category of "Wood Article, Machine Carved."
